Sari Love!!!!! [#1]

I love saris!!
They are the one of most versatile and elegant piece of garments. They can be worn in varied ways and accentuate the feminine figure so well.
India particularly has a strong tradition in craftsmanship of saris and there are many varieties of saris available throughout different regions of India.

One of the added perks of my travels throughout India(both professional and personal) is that i pick up a lot of saris from different places.
And though i would definitely not claim that i have a huge collection of saris, but i do have enough so as not to have repeated most of them during the last three years of my marriage.
Recently, i thought of sharing my love for saris with fellow bloggers in the form of a new series of posts, which is kinda like a photo directory of my saris.

Hope you enjoy this series of posts as much as am doing putting them on!!

So, here's my Sari #1

This is one sari, i really think im never gonna repeat. For the simple reason , its my wedding sari.
Like a family heirloom, wedding saris in Bengali families are seldom worn twice and treasured as heirlooms to give to the next generation.
Though nowadays, brides are getting past that and choosing wedding saris that are more trendy.

This is a Banarasi sari, known so coz of its weaving and handicraft origins from the city of Benaras.

The sari is blood red with gold roses with green leaves weaved into whole of its body, except the pallu(the last end) in which paiselys have been weaved.
The choice of this sari was primarily both mine and my mother's , as we wanted something totally traditional for my wedding day and there's nothing more traditional than a red banarasi sari for a bengali wedding.

For more info on Saris, plz see here
P.S. - the reason for my so serious look in some of the pics is the discomfort due to all the make up and hairdo i had to go through to be like this!!...you can read the details of my wedding day here.

Aww...such lovely snaps. The saree is really pretty and going tradional on one's wedding day is so much better than going avant grand and modern. Wedding days are meant to be traditonal. God I love Benarasi sarees, I might start collecting even if I don't wear them!

I love it when I see Indian women wearing saris when I am out shopping, here in Kansas. I think even the ones they wear as their everyday clothes are beautiful. Someday I will have a sari....I've been telling myself that for years. :)

I look forward to seeing more posts about your saris. Thank you!
